Hailey Ice, Inc. is made up of a phenomenal group of individuals who have brought ice skating to the South Valley.
that was established in 2000. For many years, Hailey Ice provided the community with a free, outdoor natural ice sheet—first at Roberta McKercher Park and later at the Hailey Rodeo grounds. This ice sheet allowed thousands of people to enjoy a great winter recreational opportunity for free.
As early as January 2000
Hailey Ice had the vision of building a fully enclosed ice arena. Once we saw how heavily our free outdoor rink was being used, it was clear that we needed to expand upon our mission of providing an affordable ice skating facility in Hailey while also promoting and educating the community about ice sports for recreation and physical and mental development.
Hailey Ice was part of a general obligation bond that allowed us to lease City property to build a new ice skating facility at Wertheimer Park. We began an aggressive fundraising campaign in 2012 and received generous lead gifts from the Helen K. and Arthur E. Johnson Foundation, the Nancy Eccles and Homer M. Hayward Family Foundation, and an anonymous local couple. Together, these donations totaled $1 million, and in 2014 we decided to move forward with the funds we had to build an open-air skating facility.
But Lynn Campion and her family wanted to see the facility built in accordance with Hailey Ice’s original vision
as a fully enclosed ice arena. With unbelievable generosity, they informed us that they would be donating an additional $4 million to complete a structure that would enclose the rink. This additional gift from the Campions gave the project new momentum and ultimately helped us raise over $6.5 million to complete the facility.
